This narrative unfolds in a modest town on the Hungarian Plain, where the landscape is dominated by a harsh, snowless chill. Despite the biting cold, a large crowd gathers around a circus tent erected in the town’s central square, eager to witness the main attraction: the preserved body of an actual whale. People flock from nearby villages and distant regions, drawn to this cumbersome spectacle like a silent, faceless throng clad in rags. The arrival of outsiders and the severe cold disrupt the town’s usual order. Opportunistic characters in the story see a chance to exploit the situation. The tension, already at a breaking point, is further inflamed by the enigmatic figure of the Prince, who conceals his identity. His mere presence unleashes a wave of destructive emotions…
