Roger Mason finds himself incarcerated in a high-tech, futuristic prison. Driven by a longing to reunite with his daughter, he repeatedly tries to escape, but each effort is thwarted just as he nears success. His punishments include being placed in suspended animation for extended periods, causing him to remain the same age while his daughter continues to grow up. With his sentence continually extended, he begins to lose hope of ever being released.
