Tre kronor

Tre kronor

“Tre kronor” was a Swedish soap opera broadcast on TV4 from 1994 to 1999. The storyline unfolded in the fictional middle-class suburb of Mälarviken, near Stockholm. The outdoor scenes were shot in Sätra, a Stockholm suburb, while the indoor scenes were filmed in studios located in Kvarnholmen and Kungens Kurva. The show aired concurrently with “Rederiet” on SVT, creating a rivalry for viewership, with both series attracting around 1-2 million viewers. TV4 launched “Tre kronor” in 1994 specifically to compete with “Rederiet.”

The theme song was composed by Lasse Holm.

A spin-off film titled “Reine och Mimmi i fjällen!” centered on two characters from the series, Reine and Mimmi.

The series concluded dramatically with a suicide bombing at the local restaurant Tre Kronor, leaving only six characters alive. The bomber was revealed to be a priest. Notable cliffhangers included Hans Wästberg, portrayed by Ulf Brunnberg, robbing a post office and accidentally shooting his son Hans-Åke. Hans Wästberg was subsequently imprisoned and exited the series after the second season. Season Three ended with the death of Sirpa “Bimbo” Koskinen, Hans-Åke’s girlfriend, in a bus accident. Another character, Salongo, played by Richard Sseruwagi, was a wealthy refugee from Uganda who fell in love with a married policewoman, Lena Sjökvist, played by Catharine Hansson. Salongo eventually purchased the Tre Kronor restaurant and later another restaurant, after which he also left the series.
