“Drones” opens in the arid landscape of the Nevada desert, where newcomer Sue Lawson teams up with airman Jack inside a sweltering, enclosed bunker. From this location, they remotely pilot drones over the Afghan terrain. Their initial workday is marked by a courteous yet uneasy atmosphere, as Jack is keenly conscious of Sue’s advantageous position as the daughter of a highly esteemed general. However, this assignment is far from routine: as they focus on a terrorist suspect who is not carrying weapons, a clash of authority unfolds between the intelligent and refined Sue and the determined, working-class Jack.
