When Chinese state television accuses his religious beliefs of causing a dramatic public suicide, Chen Ruichang is captured and taken to a brainwashing center reminiscent of “A Clockwork Orange,” where he is coerced into agreeing with the government’s version of events. However, Chen, who once worked within state television, suspects it was a scheme orchestrated by the government. Meanwhile, a CNN journalist who managed to secretly record the incident is silenced by Beijing. Yet, her firsthand account aids in unraveling a complex conspiracy, as Chinese officials start to exert pressure on the filmmaker’s family and business partners.
