Charlie Bradford, a filmmaker in his 30s with big dreams, is striving to break away from the tumultuous environment of his childhood. His mother, Linda, is an eccentric hoarder battling depression, which is often interrupted by bouts of excessive shopping. She has a habit of keeping her loved ones and possessions close. Charlie’s younger sisters still reside with Linda: Lisa, the elder sister, has a past of minor thefts and works as a home healthcare aide, while Penny, who is working to overcome her intense shyness, is embarking on a new career as a home stager in a struggling real estate market.
